  3. There are two basic
  4. types of glass that
  5. can be used in
  6. windshields:
  7. laminated and
  8. toughened glass. 
  9.  
  10. Laminated glass is
  11. a sheet of plastic
  12. with a sheet of
  13. glass glued to each
  14. side.  It has
  15. superior strength
  16. compared to the
  17. toughened glass,
  18. and in the event of
  19. an accident does
  20. not shatter and
  21. spread sharp pieces
  22. of glass.  The
  23. plastic keeps all
  24. the glass in a
  25. sheet.  It is more
  26. expensive to
  27. produce, and
  28. therefore not all
  29. countries demand
  30. that safety glass
  31. be used.

  33. Toughened glass is
  34. heat treated, and
  35. in accidents
  36. shatters to small
  37. cubes of glass.
